Code of Conduct

Our Code of Conduct is rooted in our values. This Code applies to all conduct at any of the gatherings and community interaction spaces of the Seattle Atheist Church, whether in-person or virtual.

Reason

  1. We encourage exploration, questioning, and critique–but challenge ideas, not people.
  1. Please do not evangelize for theism or other supernatural beliefs in our spaces.
  1. Speak from reason: base assertions on scientific evidence, personal experience or logical consequence, rather than on dogma or wishful thinking.

Compassion

  1. Be kind.
  1. Speak gently and listen generously. This is a community, not a debate club.
  1. Treat your fellow human beings with respect and dignity. Don’t promote ideas that are racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise bigoted.
  1. Engage from presumed positive intent. Consider the possibility of misunderstanding before assuming malice.
  1. Respect a “no”. Consent can be withdrawn at any time, from any interaction.

Joy

  1. Let people enjoy things. Don’t ruin other people’s enjoyment of our spaces by being disruptive, dismissive, or contemptuous.
