Online Service: Kind Lies–The Complex Shape of the Virtue of Honesty
Honesty is one of the 24 character strengths identified by positive psychology research, categorized as part of the Virtue of Courage. But sometimes it is more virtuous and courageous to lie, mislead, or leave out facts. When is lying the ethical, kind, and brave thing to do, and how can we hold ourselves to account to be honest while also being ready to lie when it’s right? I’ll cover the value of honesty and how to weigh it against other virtues when they are in conflict.
This week’s speaker will be Eva-Lise Carlstrom.
After the talk, we’ll have a group discussion to explore the ideas presented, and to share related thoughts, resources, and personal experiences.
